Setting Up Business in Dubai - Fjord International Consultancy

Following the success of Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, International Media Production Zone, Dubai Outsource Zone and Dubai Studio City, Dubai is creating a new district: Dubai Design District.

Announced earlier this month by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the new zone will sit alongside Dubai’s Business Bay area and be a hub for established and emerging fashion designers.

Tecom Investments, Ten buildings are currently being constructed including design institutes and a convention centre. Ahmad Bin Byat, CEO of Dubai Holding, said, 'To further strengthen Dubai’s knowledge-based economy and ensure its sustainability, we must create an environment that would produce and nurture future business leaders and entrepreneurs.

Dubai Design District aims to provide this environment for the local talent interested in this sector. Furthermore, these talents will be able to draw on the experience of the leading regional and international operators who we are looking to attract to the district.'

Young designers are also happy with the plans. Roadha Bin Khedia, is the co-founder of Khawla W Roadha, a fashion label that makes modern Arabic dresses. She and her sister launched the label five month ago and their designs are sold in three boutiques in the UAE. 'Government support is the best support we can get. It would be a nice opportunity to try it out,' she said.
