With stunning scenery, average temperatures in the high 20s, a host of exciting activities to choose from and just a 6 and a half hour flight, Dubai makes for a perfect winter escape.

The warm climate and hours of winter sunshine means that you will be able to relax by the pool or unwind on the beach, with many hotels having their own private stretch of shoreline. For those on a budget, the city has some fantastic public beaches where you can have a swim in the inviting Arabian Sea.

There are plenty of fantastic family activities to enjoy too including the splashtastic Aquaventure water park at Atlantis The Palm and the Watercooled watersports centre at the JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort. Another great option is to take a dune-bashing safari in a 4x4 jeep through the Arabian Desert followed by a meal and entertainment in a traditional Bedouin camp.

It may come as a surprise but Dubai is a wonderful place to spend the festive period. For example the little ones can meet Santa at the iconic Raffles Dubai. A Christmas Festival is taking place at the Media City Amphitheatre which includes a traditional Christmas market.

There’s nothing quite like celebrating New Year’s Eve in Dubai. At midnight, Downtown is the place to be. The fireworks erupting from the top and sides of the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, are sure to provide an inspirational backdrop to the first minutes of 2014.
